Library Adds Saturday Hours to Curbside Pickup May 16

As the next step toward resumption of library services, curbside pickup of library materials will now also be available on Saturdays. In addition to weekday curbside pickup hours from noon to 5 p.m., all branches, with the exception of Danbury, will offer Saturday curbside pickup from 12 noon to 5 p.m. beginning May 16. In conjunction with this expansion, branches are returning to their regular workdays, with libraries that were normally closed on Mondays, Fridays or Saturdays remaining closed on those days. For specific service hours, contact your local branch or visit the library website at: bcls.lib.tx.us. Curbside service will not be provided on Saturday, May 23, and Monday, May 25, when the County observes the Memorial Day holdiay.

Only items that have already been placed on hold are eligible for this service. Patrons can go online to the library website at bcls.lib.tx.us and login to their account to request items. They can also call their local branch for assistance.

Once they are notified that the items are in and available for pick-up, patrons may go to their local branch, park in the designated pick-up area, and call the number on the sign. Library staff will bring the items out on a cart and patrons will be able to pick up their requested items.

For the safety of the public and staff, we will not be able to accept money for fines, donated materials, or conduct any other business through this curbside service. We will only be able to check out held items; patrons wishing to return books must put them in the book drop. The exceptions will be the return of library hotspots, tablets and ILL materials. At this time, DIY items are not available for this service.

All of our library buildings remain closed to the public, but book drops are open for materials to be returned. All library materials currently checked out have a due date of June 5. If you have any questions please call your local branch or the library administration office at 979-864-1505

Message from BCLS Director

Thank you again for your support of the libraries during these extraordinary times. As the state begins to normalize business, the library will begin to resume its public services. To help guard the health and safety of our staff and patrons, BCLS will be resuming operations in stages.

On Monday, May 4, we will begin the first stage, which will include curbside pick-up of held items. For more information, see the BCLS website or contact your local branch.

Provided the situation across the state remains stable or begins to improve, our branches will begin limited public access as early in May as circumstances allow. This will include circulation and public computer access only. We also anticipate having limited occupancy in the buildings during this time. Curbside pick-up will continue for our patrons who prefer to limit public exposure. Social distancing and other health guidelines will be in effect, and we ask for full cooperation from all our patrons in making sure those guidelines are followed.

This year, we will conduct a virtual summer reading program. Although everyone is encouraged to read as they have always done, all programming and activities will be conducted online. We know that not everyone has access to a robust Wi-Fi network at home, so to help fill the gap, the library will be checking out hotspot enabled tablets. If you have questions about the Summer Reading Program or the hotspot tablets, please contact your local branch.

You will learn more about the stages the library will use to resume public services as our plans solidify, but many of those plans will be prompted by changing circumstances with the virus.

As always, we are eager to see our patrons again and hope everyone is staying safe and well. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact the library.

There is a lot of talk going on about coronavirus. These are a few resources to provide reliable information.
